The temples of Bayon and Ta Prohm

// Yesterday we went on an excursion to the mysterious temples of Bayon and Ta Prohm in the jungle outside of Siem Reap city. These temples were raised sometimes during the 12th century but were later on overgrown by the jungle and forgotten. Which is actually fortunate, considering the temples most likely would have been blown to pieces by the gruesome dictator Pol Pot during his regime in 1970's Cambodia.
The temples were rediscovered as late as in the 1990's (-91, if my memory serves me right?) by a Frenchman.
Since then, the temples all around Siem Reap has undergone restauration arranged by the World Health Organisation and different countries in Asia are responsible for the restaurationwork of different temples. For example, Vietnam is responsible for the restauration of Bayon and India is responsible for the one of Ta Prohm.
I truly loved strolling around in these temples: they are so beautiful. Especially Ta Prohm felt particularly mysterious and exotic: during the centuries past trees and roots has grown on top of and through Ta Prohm and they have been left like this. Giant trees growing further up in to the air than the eye can tell. One if these temples (I am unsure of which one it is, but neither Bayon not Ta Prohm) had the movie "Tomb Raider - Lara Croft" as its setting. Although, I can't for my life understand how Angelina Jolie could put up with wearing leather clothes all the time in the blistering heat and humidity!
We decided on splitting up all the temple tours in to two days, which felt like the best of ideas when we realized how hot it was. When we got back to the hotel we hang out by the pool with some drinks before having an early dinner and I was so tired I went to bed at nine o'clock in the evening.
Tomorrow we go to see the amazing temples of Angkor Wat but today a visit to a local silk farm is on the agenda!
